My wife and I stayed at the Jade Garden for three nights this past April 2008. We had a suite for $130.00 US a night. The room was incredibly and worth the rate, disappointing was the front desk staff. This began with booking the room and continued till checking out. The reception staff speak little English. My wife is from Chongqing and even she had a tough time requesting our suite. We were calling in the evening and the young lady quoted all rooms as the same rate, we ended up having to call back in the morning to get what we wanted. The hotel’s restaurant we found pleasant staff broad and a good quality banquet.
PLEASE NOTE; there is restaurant in the basement and is not part of the hotel. Inadequate service at best, sky-scraping prices, unreasonable food quality/quantity.
The location of the hotel is excellent! When staying in Beijing before we have always stayed further away from the center. We have had our share of extended rides around the city. It was so enjoyable to just walk a few blocks to go shopping and dining out.
When checking out I needed to be leaving at six in AM for my flight back to LA and my wife was returning to Chongqing in the afternoon. I wanted to close out our bill the night before and request a taxi. Only after arguing with all the reception staff and having to leave cash deposit for her to stay in the room would they allow her to stay after I left. And they ended up charging her some of the deposit when she checked out at noon, what for?
The finality was calling down to check on my taxi, there again my wife is exchanging in a long conversation with the front desk as why she couldn’t check or tell us? Turns out there where two taxis in front, ours was just pulled forward of the door and the concierge was sleeping in the back seat of the other taxi. All she had to do was walk ten feet to check for us.
A wonderful room and a superb location to dreadful reception. We will be returning after the summer games in the fall, Yongxiu has already stated that we will not be returning.
